I was absolutely not expecting this when I downloaded the game. This is an absolute masterpiece, and is honestly so, so sad. At first, I thought it would just be about some creepy people in the 90's, but it's so much more than that. As I read the emails, I thought it was a little weird that he kept asking women to meet him in a specific place, and after watching the video, I was just so disappointed that I didn't find out sooner. Overall, amazing game.

thank you so so much!

I was scared shitless while playing this

(+1)

i feel like the game ended way too soon. or maybe im just stupid. the ending was VERY clever though, i feel like there wasn't a lot of prior context. But still, this game is amazing!

(+1)

really enjoyed this game.

playing it alone in the evening i genuinely got a bit scared, and psychologically that fear and the themes of the game linger. i already know this is game will be on my mind for a while.

love the style and the writing, concept is really cool and in between the horror the texts are fun and entertaining to read. found the puzzles to be just the right amount of hard, didn't have trouble finding the information needed but had fun looking for it.

thanks for making this !

Really enjoying what I can reach, but I feel a bit lost- The UI seems a bit unresponsive at times and I have an issue where I cant seem to back out of the video swap entirely without restarting, theres no back button on the home page of it. Would like if there was a guide somewhere, even if just a loose one. The tone is great though, unsettling and clearly from an unreliable unstable narrator without being over the top.
Edit: Got at least most of it to work- only thing I dont know is the password for paras. Great piece.

(+1)

I couldn't crack the para password, but I really enjoyed the game!! All your games have such great atmosphere :)

(+1)

if you work it out, let me know lol me neither </3

you guys probably figured it out by now lol, but the passwords are 1998 and Ginny

When I first sat down and booted up VILE, I was already overwhelmed with a sense of unease. What starts off as a simple browse on a computer from the 90's, VILE slowly unravels into a disturbing glimpse into the mind of a demented man named Shawn Gerighs.

The more I began to dig through emails and media files, the more uncomforable I started to feel, as it went from casual conversations, to images and pictures I felt like I wasn't supposed to even be looking at. It was a sense of stumbling into the mind of someone I wasn't supposed to have access to, and I couldn't, nor would the game, stop me from stepping off that ledge into darkness...

There's a decent amount of puzzle solving in the form of using context clues in documents and emails, to find passwords and personal information which helps advance the experience along. These had me scratching my head a bit, as there are some that are straightforward, and some that you have to do a bit of digging to figure out.

This was an incredibly chilling experience and a unique take on interactive horror games, as a lot of other games tackle subject matter that is relatively status-quo, however VILE dives into the realms of obsession, parasocial relationships, sadism, and the darker side of what can happen to internet adult stars. Please play the game and give yourself some time to sit down and unravel the madness.

thank you so so much for playing and taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment - I am glad to hear what you took from the experience :)

I found out about Vile late at night, after around 2 hours of half looking for a book to read half doomscrolling twitter. When I'm in that mode I often ask myself sarcastically "What are you expecting to find?" Vile felt like the perfect answer to that, a finding out to my fucking around. I bought it instantly and jumped in, even if it was far too late for horror.

I expected to be scared, a tale about the horrors of the pornography industry and the perils of deep internet rabbit holes. Instead, I found a story of parasocial obsession that made me feel really fucking sad. Like a lot of good horror, Vile turns up a notch a situation that feels all to familiar.

Anyway, I guess the point of this ramble is that if like I was you are on the fence about playing this because of the gore I'll say do it, the game is great and the gore is rather tasteful and very much not the point. (For reference, I like written transgressive fiction a lot, but I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to audiovisual stuff).

PS: My dumb ass thought the Para password was a cipher for the actual password, and really overthought things (see attached sheet). Oh well, at least I got to see a variety of test endings, plus I drew a cute octopus-demon in the paint tool.

PS2: I cackled at Eleanor going on weekly walks in the park with a 6:1 alone/accompanied ratio. I do exactly the same and often joke about how easy it would be for a stalker to find me.

reading this left me pretty speechless. Truly truly truly thank you so much for playing this game.

(+1)

a crazy good, yet disturbing game. it really felt like a peek into the mind of a disturbed man that makes so many women feel unsafe. i didnt think it would feel so real but it really hit me where it hurts- in the best way.

Excellently made

“Vile” is a very intriguing short retro-horror that doesn’t shy away from delving into quite dark and murky waters. There is an unconventional monster at work here.

The game made me cringe, laugh, snicker, and sit in silent “wtf!?!,” all in the span of 30-something minutes. Yes, you can practically see the end plot from a mile away, yet its final gut punch doesn’t lose anything in its effectiveness, as it isn’t just hideous and atrocious. Oh no, it’s indeed, VILE.

Technically and artistically, the game is a solid 9.9 out of 10. Hope to see more projects from Final Girl Games.

Thank you very much! I am glad the experience was what I set out to make it. Thank you for the kind words and for playing :)

wait does this game have clowns? im too scared to download it but im curious

(+1)

no clowns :)

Played this game as part of my random horror series. I'm ngl it was hard to get through in some parts with the topics. But the story itself is pretty good. Shout-out you fr fr

so so good!! i love media that captures the true horror of something you know men could never truly understand. to actually play as a horrible person, to realise you're the exploiter it just makes everything feel so so much worse. The point of view on vile.mov is just amazing. this topic is one that hits really close for me so i'm feeling a lot rn. but yeah. amazing game. love ur use of language. id love to discuss the process of making the game too if ur up for that! lmk if i can reach out to u

(+2)

I really really loved this! A really thoughtful take on the subject that delves into the exact type of entitled creep that often frequents these spaces while not losing sight of the fact that that doesnt inherently make the subject "bad"

(+2)

Thank you so much for the kind words and for playing >:)

(1 edit) (+1)

Idk if I'm dumb or what, but I can't work any of this out. I feel pretty directionless. (Edit) Nevermind I'm stupid.

(+2)

holy crap what a good game. I was absolutely gripped by the story revealing itself. horrifying, but amazing execution (no pun intended?)

(+1)

thank you very much :)

(1 edit)

Is "imoptsr" spelled wrong, or this is an intended design that shows writer's anger? It can be "imposter". The sentence is in the second "Forum Follow Up".

(+1)

All right. I see the next paragragh. They are written in that way on purpose.

(+2)

this is such a good game! do you plan on making more content? i went through the game in 30 minutes, needing more in this style. i love the way you make and format your games! hope this isn't the last project from you, i'd love to see more"

(+2)

I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for playing, I have so much fun making games there is definitely more to come!!!

(+3)

The topics involved here kind of gave me the ick, but the game itself is absolutely incredible-- very thought-provoking stuff that makes for a harrowing experience. Great job.

(+1)

This game deserves to be talked about. There are a ton of amazing elements to it- the presentation, the mystery, and the message overall are all laid out so well. For as short as it is- and that's not implying it should be longer- it is effective as hell. I hope to see more in the near future.

wow thank you so much! I appreciate you playing it and I am so glad you enjoyed the experience. :)

(+1)

This feels like the kind of game I've been looking for for years, absolutely horrifying. Touches on so many morbid interests of mine but comes at them from the female perspective I so sorely miss from other media. So excited to see what you make next <3

Also...any hint regarding Para? Can't figure out where to start with that exe.

Thank you so much for the kind words! That means a lot and that's exactly why I wanted to make VILE.

I don't want to post hints publically but if you would like to reach out to me on Twitter I can give you a clue!

(+3)

hello i love the game so much but i cannot get past writing the passwords for example i type in PASSWORD/YEAR and it does not seem to work i tried every combination possible to get into the mail login but no matter what i do it does not let get further i did watch the hint and typed it in exactly like it says

(+1)(-1)

i am experiencing the same issue!

(1 edit) (+1)

glad you loved the game :)

perhaps instead of a combination just try the year - the hint is just that, a hint. not the exact formatting!

thank you!

(+1)

I will probably not stomach playing it because it sounds like it will hit too close to home, but the third screenshot is one of the most brilliant pieces of writing I've seen.

(+1)

I can’t totally understand that. For that same reason making it was sometimes a challenge 🖤

but thank you I did have fun writing some of the more light hearted bits!!!!

(+2)

Omg I loved this so much!!! It's so good!!!

(+2)

thank you I am so glad to hear!

(+1)

What a great game!

Thank you so much :>

(+1)

This is so good!  And I absolutely love the whole presentation of it!!

thank you so much!!!! :)
